Shop for Thanksgiving Dinner on a Budget
We all know how quickly the cost of Thanksgiving dinner can get out of control. But with some planning, you can still have a delicious feast without breaking the bank!
Try out a few of these tips to save costs this Turkey Day:
- Start by researching cheap recipes. Make a quick internet search for budget-friendly Thanksgiving recipes before heading to the store. Tons of creative chefs on the internet have already created cost-saving recipes – no need to reinvent the wheel!
- Make a shopping list with a spending limit. Once you have an idea of what foods you want to make, create a realistic budget – with a spending limit. Then make a list of everything you need that will fit in your budget… and stick to it!
- Try an alternative menu. Turkey isn’t always the most economical main course. Try making a cheaper alternative to the traditional Thanksgiving dinner – like pasta or a chicken dish.
- Ask guests to bring dishes. Make it a potluck! Asking family, friends and guests to bring sides or desserts is a great way to share the cost and the workload.
- Buy generic brands. Typically, generic brands taste just as good as their name brand counterparts! Save a few bucks by shopping at discount grocery stores and buying generic brands.
- Clip coupons and check out sales ads. Check your local grocery stores for coupon books. Some stores even have apps with digital coupons you can comb through. Don’t be afraid to craft your menu based on what’s on sale that week!
